The 'Kangourou' Syllabus

Children follow a course called 'Kangourou' published by Hachette Livre. It was developed over a period of ten years in Switzerland for the purpose of teaching French to non-French speakers. Its lively, colourful and relatively text-free presentation makes it an ideal teaching tool which can be adapted for all children in keystages 1 and 2. Our teachers are encouraged to complement the course with their own activities such as role play, games and songs.

The material covered by Kangourou leads directly into the National curriculum for Modern languages at secondary school. It provides age-appropriate activities for all four language skills. When addressing many of the functional areas and grammatical structures in keystage 3, those children who have attended a Je m'appelle course previously will have a significant head-start.
